New Beadies

New beadies for sale on Etsy! Lovely purple beads with purple flower and leaf millefiori designs.

The light purple flowers are a design I've been playing around with. The roses are made using a variation of Mars Designs rose tutorial. Marcia does some lovely work and her tutorials are fab. The leafy designs are Irish Mishley's, which you can find in her rose tutorial set, Iris does fab work too!

I really need to make up more of my own cane designs don't I?!

Yup, the title says it all really so here are the first set of beads I have made using my groovy mushroom cane...

I used slices of frog, flower and leaf canes along with the backgroundless mushroom canes on a dusky pink background. These are for sale now on my Folksy site.

I also made my first mushroom cane focused earrings - see them below.

They have a little froggy surprise..

Don't forget you can win some of the mushroom cane here.

Cane giveaway - update.

I think I totally confused everyone by holding 2 cane giveaways at the same time. People weren't really sure what they had to do. Sorry!

I have successfully selected a winner from my FloRaeMe Facebook page. However I didn't have anyone who left comments on this blog telling me what they would like to do with the mushroom cane if they won.

So I'm holding the giveaway on this blog again.

Win, win, win, win, win, win, win!!

For your chance to win 3 inch long bits of mushroom cane (various sizes) plus a bit of scrap clay to practice slicing (the cane is a bit delicate) here's what you need to do:
  1. Become a follower of this blog. Of course, if you already follow this blog you can simply skip this part.
  2. Leave a comment on this post telling me how you would use this cane if you won it.
That's it! I will pick my favourite comment and that person will win.

I will be holding this giveaway opportunity until Monday 27th May so get commenting.

Ladybird Polymer Clay Cane

I recently made this ladybird polymer clay cane. I thought it would go well with my dragonfly cane and mushroom cane

I packed the cane to an oblong shape as I didn't want to use lots of translucent. I reduced the cane by making an oblong shape between my thumb and forefinger and choking from the middle outwards.

As you can see I did get a little distortion so it may have been better to use the play doh technique here and reduce a round cane. When I try that one, I'll let you know how it goes!

I also made this snow capped flower cane from Tamishvat's tutorial. I can recommend it.

Polymer Clay Friendly Cling Film

Hi UK Folks

Wouldn't you just love to be able to find a brand of cling film locally that doesn't react to polymer clay? One that doesn't end up all squidgy and sticky a week after you have used it on your clay?

Well I found one! The Co-op do a Non-PVC brand of cling film that has not yet reacted to my clay!

I had some Premo and Kato clay wrapped in the Co-op cling film for 6 months now and it's fine. No reaction, I think the clue is in the "non-pvc" bit as polymer clay contains PVC, so this must react to the cling film with pvc.

Its isn't the strongest brand of cling film so it can be a little annoying in that respect, but YOU CAN FIND IT AT YOUR LOCAL SUPERMARKET. Whoop!!

I found some in Sainsbury's too but I haven't had a chance to test this brand. I'll let you know how that goes!
